Scott Valley is a beautiful pastoral valley located in central Northern California near the Oregon border just a few miles southwest of the town of Yreka. Scott Valley is the heart and soul of the 3,000 square miles of western Siskiyou County. The valley is completely surrounded by mountains. To the west is the majestic Marble Mountain Wilderness Area with its snow capped peaks and granite rock formations. To the east is a lower mountain range with a beauty all its own. Scott Valley is 28 miles long and one to six miles wide. Its population of approximately 5,600, lives on hay and cattle ranches, in small rural subdivisions, rural parcels or in one of four communities. The valley is a history lover's Mecca. Once thriving mining camps of a century ago such as Oro Fino, Deadwood and Hoopervile, are now but memories and a few relics. Many of the ranch properties contain the remnants of old school houses, homes and businesses of a bygone era.
